Underhoop costumes
New ladies 1-2 or 3 ring / hoop skirt - underskirt.
Washable cotton white or beige three ring hoop muslin hoop skirt, with draw string waist and a ruffle at the bottom. Hoops are made from new steel coated banding, ends have been filed to a rounded smooth edge. All hoops have two clamps and can be adjusted to be made smaller when needed. They are made with steal banding and two adjustment clamps. Banding is easily removed for washing the skirt.
This hoop skirt can be used for an underskirt / petticoat when needed.
Muslin is perma press, wash in cool water, dry on low.
Ribbon tie ups around the skirt allow you to adjust for difference in length of your dresses.
In the early eighteenth century, side hoops were first worn over the chemise to support the outer dress. Hoop skirts then became fashionable. Many were linen or cotton petticoats with cane or whalebone inserts. The fashion allowed ladies to wear elaborate gowns at Court.
Despite the occasional, tantalising glimpse of ankle afforded as the skirts swung, there was a great deal of masculine opposition to this fashion.
