(1). Shoes: ankle boots that lace up the front with a leather sole and short heel. Black or brown.
Dress shoes: black with small heels that curve in on both sides.
(2). Stockings: Most 100% cotton, held up with garters. White, Black and Tan of knitted cotton, wool, silk.
(3). Drawers / Pantelettes: 100% cotton, with trimmed edges. Drawers have an open crotch.
White, but for cold weather striped or checked made of wool and flannel.
(4). Chemise: a white cotton full slip worn under the corset.
(5). Corset: Necessities for making the dress look accurate. Can be very comfortable is fitted correctly.
(6). Modesty petticoat: worn under the hoop, not always needed if your chemise is long enough.
(7). Hooped or Corded Petticoat: white cotton. Hoops average 90 inches for day wear, 65-75 for corded.
Hoops can be larger for balls and special occasions.
(8). Over the Hoop Petticoat: used over the hoop to hide the lines made for the hoops, considered a must to look finished and smart. Usually 3 inches shorter then the dress, white or colored, cotton or taffeta, with a deep flounce. Average uses 6 yards of fabric.
Other important items to finish your dress:
Gloves: short for day, long for balls and entertaining, usually white or yellow.
Fan: Paper, lace or cloth
Reticule: A small bag or purse
Chatelaine: Day wear, a pin and chains to transport needles, small scissors, thread, etc.

Shoes: Should have leather uppers and soles. Plain dress shoes of today will work, or high-topped shoes that lace up the front.
Stockings: Knit or wool in black, gray or brown.
Drawers: 100% cotton or flannel, ankle-length or knee high.
Shirts: White linen or cotton for dress and printed or solid cotton for work.
Trousers: Work pants use denim (not blue jeans), twill or course wool.
Dress, fine wool, dark solid color , checked, pinstriped, herringbone and hound’s-tooth.
Braces: Suspenders, with leather tabs in neutral, brown or black.
Vest: Daytime, solid color or subtle pattern made of wool, velvet or very thin corduroy.
Evening, White or black brocade, brighter colored and designs then day time.
Frock Coat: Dark to medium colors, wide lapels and longer length. Made form fine wool, trousers can be the same color or lighter.
Formal, Evening Attire: “tux with tails”, black, white gloves for dancing.
Ties or Cravats: black, many styles and sizes.
